Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley is known worldwide as one of the best places to observe wolves in the wild. On this private full-day winter tour, your naturalist guide leads you deep into the Northern Range to track wolves, bison, elk, and moose against the snowy backdrop of Yellowstone’s wilderness. Starting before sunrise, you’ll scan the open valleys with spotting scopes, learning about animal behavior and ecology along the way. Frequent stops allow you to observe and photograph wildlife, with expert commentary on each species encountered. Warm beverages and snacks are provided to keep you comfortable, and guests bring their own lunch for a mid-day break. Depending on conditions, short walks or snowshoe excursions can be added to your itinerary for closer vantage points. With flexible pacing and an expert guide, this experience offers an unparalleled opportunity to witness Yellowstone’s wild side in its most dramatic season.

6:00 AM — Depart from Gardiner or Mammoth
6:30 AM — Enter Northern Range
7:00 AM — Wolf tracking and observation in Lamar Valley
9:00 AM — Spot bison, elk, and moose
11:30 AM — Midday lunch break (bring your own)
12:30 PM — Explore side canyons for additional sightings
2:00 PM — Optional short hike or snowshoe excursion
3:30 PM — Final wildlife viewing and scenic stops
5:00 PM — Return to Gardiner
