The Box Canyon ATV Tour is one of Arizona’s most thrilling off-road experiences. Located in Florence—about an hour from both Phoenix and Tucson—this 34-mile trail winds through stunning Sonoran Desert landscapes and the rugged front range of the Pinal Mountains. Over roughly three hours of riding, you’ll climb and descend 1,500 feet while your guide points out fascinating landmarks along the way. Highlights include ancient Native American petroglyphs, a historic adobe stage stop from the 1860s Butterfield Overland Route, and the tour’s namesake Box Canyon—a narrow slot canyon with walls soaring 1,500 feet high and only 20 feet apart in some stretches. The scenery shifts from wide desert plains to towering red rock cliffs as you ride deeper into the canyon, stopping for photos and short breaks. This guided experience combines adventure, education, and the raw beauty of Arizona’s backcountry. 8:00 AM – Meet your guide and safety orientation 8:30 AM – Begin ride through desert trails 9:00 AM – Stop at petroglyph site for photos and history 9:30 AM – Enter Box Canyon slot and ride beneath towering cliffs 10:30 AM – Return ride through Pinal foothills 11:00 AM – Arrive back at base camp and conclude adventure
